Connecting people through the art of knitting
We are a community of hobbyist knitters around The Netherlands bringing a warm and loving embrace to people through our local, hand-knit clothing made from natural materials.

2022
Originally established in January 2022 as a mother- and daughter-in-law business, amma knitwear was born from a love of connecting with the self and others through knitting.
We believe people are embraced with a warm hug when wearing an amma garment.
We want the whole world to feel that kind of love.

I am a stay-at-home mother, and Amma has given me more purpose in my daily life and the feeling of being valued for my knitting. Unfortunately, I don't live very close to Zwolle, so meeting people in person is not a given, but the contact through the app to chat about knitting is nice. It's very enjoyable to see what everyone creates and how customers look in their beautiful knits.

I find it very relaxing to knit, creating beautiful things, especially using Amma's designs to knit for others. For a personal touch, the buyer can see how much love went into the knitting. It's also very enjoyable to talk with others about knitting, exchanging tips and tricks, and appreciating each other's beautiful work.

I would like to pass on the tradition of handicrafts (from your head to your body and heart) to my daughter and find it fantastic to do this together with her. We are challenged to learn new knitting patterns with beautiful materials, creating awareness about slow fashion and sustainability.

At a market we attended recently, every visitor we spoke with had warm stories about their family or other loved ones knitting. The proudness of a grown-up 'tough man' who told us about his grandmother and the socks she made for him in the past and how he's missing them now. How he lit up when we said we could make woollen handknit socks for him... Knitting is storytelling.

It's special to create, to let something come to life through your hands, and really enjoyable to share this with other knitters/people at a market or a joint knitting evening. Knitting brings peace to my mind—everything comes to a standstill except your hands. Not to forget the moments of joy when a customer is satisfied and happy with the knitted product.

My client gave me a big compliment for the perfect knitting I did. Now I feel the love and purpose for why I am knitting with 'amma'. It was meant to be... making someone happy with what I love to do, knitting.
